Mountain View Adopts Climate Protection Roadmap

On September 17, 2015 the Mountain View City Council adopted a Climate Protection Roadmap (CPR) for its community.  The CPR establishes greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets in 5 year increments, which culminate in 80% reductions below 2005 levels by 2050.  It also lists a series of actions and strategies City Council can undertake to reach its GHG reduction targets.

One of the top three priority actions in the CPR is the investigation of the formation of a Community Choice Energy (CCE) program, which is currently underway.  The other top priorities are promoting solar photovoltaic installation and electric vehicle purchases; and pursuing "low hanging fruit" projects based on cost and GHG reduction potential.  There is a long list of other actions the council could undertake.

The next step is to build a detailed Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (ESAP) on how to get to the various reduction targets. That plan will start coming together in early  2016.

See Council Agenda Item 7.2 for more details.
